Allen Jones
It doesn’t have to be this way. Marketing needs clear direction from experienced leaders.
I grew up on the agency side where I trained extensively in strategy, planning, branding, creative and media. I purposely pursued hands-on work with everything from advertising to digital agencies; Fortune 500 to startup companies; retail to tech clients; B2C to B2B strategies and brand to product marketing. In it, I discovered the powerful link between strategy, creativity and business success. Through it, I’m proud that I led and grew several mid-size agencies by focusing on people, creative work, business development and strategic partnerships.
When I moved into client-side leadership positions at a wine startup and an international nutritional supplement company, I was committed to learning each business from the inside out. I integrated strategy and creativity across all facets of both organizations. With past knowledge and new insights, I built the wine startup into a flourishing brand and transformed the supplement company into a modern business and market leader. I’ve also been actively consulting with business owners from emerging companies to optimize creative projects and ensure strategic initiatives stay on course from idea to implementation.
Marketing is not about this channel versus that channel. Or the old way versus the new way. Marketing is about asking smart questions. And research. It’s about strategy, planning and execution. Marketing is about creative work. Meaningful, distinctive, visible creative work. Because without the work, the best plans will get you nowhere.
So, ignore the hype and all the jargon, stick to marketing’s fundamentals and facts and commit to the discipline it takes to discover the best route for your business. Complicated? No. Easier said than done? Absolutely.
